JUBA, 23rd May, 2011 [Gurtong] - As South Sudan awaits its
independence due on the 9th of July 2011, the virtually independent
nation has been hit again by high Diesel prices crisis that’s been
realised overnight. Most States were hit since last week.

Most of the fuel Stations along the Ministry road in Juba, are out of
Diesel stock but plenty of petrol supply.

A 1 litre of Diesel that was selling at 2.7SDG early May is now
selling at 5.0SDG and in some fuel Stations the commodity goes for
5.5SDG, which is highest mark in the regions’ recent history.

This latest price wars has sparked fears among motorists since the
price increment didn’t indicate a gradual rate but rather just
skyrocketed overnight and may increase further if not controlled.

Gurtong spoke to Mr. Mugambe, a Juba based commercial motorcyclist
commonly known as ‘bodo boda’ this morning, Mugambe said, “I don’t
know what to do because this sudden diesel price increase has really
affected some of us badly, we feel like charging the customers higher
fares but they won’t understand.

Mugambe said that, “Am ready to park my motorcycle should the diesel
prices continue to raise, I have nothing else to do.”

Mr. Woja, an employee at the Queen petrol station in Juba stated that,
“We have been suffering ever since the referendum in January, the
trucks transporting fuel from North Sudan cut off their supply to
South Sudan, we now have to rely on fuel from other East African
countries."
