WAU, 16th June, 2011 [Gurtong] - One person was killed and two others
seriously injured yesterday in a Jaw main market based mobile phone
shop in Wau by unknown assailant wearing military uniform.

According to an eye witness, the robber who appeared in military
uniform came to the shop and asked for a mobile phone handset like a
regular client.

When the new handset was handed to him, the man began walking away
without paying for it. When the shopkeeper asked him for money, he
immediately shot him at close range to death by an Ak47 gun model.

The robber soon revealed himself as the killer in a bizarre twist; he
then started firing bullets aimlessly at everyone who was near him in
the open air Jaw market as a result injuring injures two others.

A police officer identified as Lual Agany who heard and responded to
the gun shots from the nearest police station in the market was shot
in the scuffle, while a 15 years old boy was also shot on the leg.

According to unidentified security source that apprehended the robber;
the man appeared from nowhere but alleged to have inhaled opium as a
bundle of the substance was starched in his small handbag that also
carried some bullets.

State officials confirmed that the incident dint have any military
involvement but the thief just impersonated the army by wearing
similar uniform and holding an AK47 that might have been stolen from
elsewhere.

Mr. Abraham Manyuat, the State commissioner of police who visited the
crime scene along with the acting Western Bahr el Ghazal Governor,
Hon. Peter Miskin and Wau County commissioner, Angelo Taban, said that
clam had returned to normal and assured the public during his speech
at Jaw main market that thorough investigations was under way.

“Policemen and military police have been deployed along the market to
do a night patrol around the market for any attempted night
robberies,” said Mr. Abraham Manyuat.

Manyuat described the incident as criminal and demanded the
authorities to make sure that the killer appeared in court for trial.
