TORIT, 21st June, 2011 [Gurtong] – Eastern Equatoria State convened a
two-day crucial conference for reconciliation, which started yesterday
ahead of South Sudan’s Independence Day in order to unite influential
leaders irrespective of their political parties across the State.

With the theme: ‘Justice, Democracy, Accountability and Progress’ the
ongoing conference that ends today with about 100 attendees is being
held at Hotel Torit, presided over by the State Governor Hon. Louis
Lobong Lojore.

During the convention opening, the Governor informed the participants
that the overall objective of the conference was the State’s unity and
peace.

Lobong clarified that the meeting was a follow-up of the greater
Equatoria conference held in Juba which the State is implementing
according to the resolutions passed. Lobong added, “We need to
collectively implement recommendations in cooperation and good faith.”

He welcomed the participants and encouraged them to actively and
freely participate during discussion of key issues. “I hope you will
contribute productively. We will subsequently utilize our inputs for
the welfare of the State,” the Governor said.

Governor Lobong also informed the leaders during deliberations that
since he was marking a year in office after being sworn in as a
Governor, he would unveil achievements and challenges during his
tenure together with the Cabinet and Legislature.

He encouraged the participants to rate his administration’s
performance in comparison to the 6 year Government’s performance since
the CPA.

Among his key invitees for the conference were General Joseph Lagu;
the present GOSS’ Special Advisor, Aloisio Emor Ojetuk; the former EES
Governor, Hon. Peter Longole Kuam; South Sudan Legislative Assembly
Member.

In order to ensure inclusive participation, each EES County had sent 8
representatives to take part in the conference.

The Governor underscored the importance of reconciliation ahead of
Independence Day come July 9th 2011. “It is good for the historic
event to reunite you all,” Lobong reiterated.
