UN OCHA concerned about access to South Kordofan IDPs in hiding Saturday, 25 June 2011 10:05 Sudan >>> Humanitarian agencies say they are still unable to freely access tens of thousands of people in Sudan's South Kordofan region, since fighting broke out early June between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the region.
Spokesperson of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Elizabeth Byrs said on Friday that OCHA is concerned about the condition of some Internally Displaced Persons who fled to the mountains, to escape the fighting. She said that the number of people who could have fled to the mountains is not clear. Many are believed to be hiding in caves and the bush, and humanitarian agencies need to have access to these people, Byrs added. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
