Blood or oil, Pagan should have known better

BY: Nul Jacob Mayendit, JUBA

JULY 05/2011, SSN; South Sudan Administration and the SPLM as a ruling
party will have cases to resolve in the nearest future which is not so
far from now. Personally, when I observe through the national plans,
there shall be a hangover after the 9th July, from long-awaited
independence, and this might be inform of joblessness, acute shortage
of fuel, food crisis, Foreign currencies shortage, less performance of
death lobbies around the Presidential palace and office and so many
negative activities in the country.

Pagan Amum must critically observe current situation in the Country,
there are economic related issues that need technical and diplomatic
approaches. Unlike the Referendums, maintenance of harmony between
South Sudan and the Sudan government is much more important than
having an Independent Country with rocky relationships accompanied by
suffering by the majority citizens.

However, he has began by speculating about his colleagues as an
element of lobby, what is wrong with selling oil to Northern
counterpart to prevent the would-be bloodshed of innocent citizens
both in the Northern Sudan and Southern Sudan?

Life is precious and wealth is obtained with time, if the Federal Oil
Minister, Dr. Lual Deng, gave away Southern oil without any consent
from the President, it becomes an administrative subject of concern
between his office, Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning in the
GOSS and President’s office before it is publicized.

Furthermore, there is a protocol to be observed in the Government of
Southern Sudan, Pagan is a Minister for Comprehensive Peace Agreement
Implementation whereas Dr. Lual Deng is a Sudan Federal Minister for
Petroleum.

Pagan Amum cannot and will never establish an investigation upon his
fellow Federal Minister as he said, "an investigation will soon be
launched into this action by the Minister.”

How best has this Secretary learnt of the Minister’s action while he
is in Addis Ababa Ethiopia and when was this 48% given to Sudan
Government, when is the end of July? All these questions remain
hanging because the Minister for CPA is responding to a local
situation from abroad and he has stepped in the shoes of the Minister
for Information and Broadcasting.

This oil is not meant for money alone but could be used to buy off
risks and other awful intentions that might drag the country into loss
of lives and properties, and this is only a political benefit Southern
Sudanese citizens shall have benefited from the oil.

Whereas Secretary General of SPLM has accused his colleague Federal
Minister for Petroleum of betraying SPLM, he has as well blackmailed
him as a person, falsely accused him and character assassinated him as
well as his President, and this has not ended on Southern Sudan
Television but on a global media.

What next if Dr. Lual Deng does not qualify for the Ministerial
position after July 9th which seems no logic behind the Minister for
CPA’s implications?

In the SPLM, there is a rule of "Big Brother Africa House” BBA TV.
Channel, where inactive participants collude against active members
and dispose them off to leave the House during selection. SPLM has few
professionals whom their inputs equal to outputs and these few are
being fought to leave the house so that the incompetent take over the
positions. And every time I watch this channel, it resembles what is
happening in this Party.

Dr. Lual Deng is a professional and highly experienced with the World
Bank, African Development Bank as well as oil marketing and sales,
even his Government knows this.

However, he is not speculative and not regular with media and maybe
most of the fabrications inflicted on him because of this aspect. SPLM
has no single oil field but Government and the entire citizens of the
would be the Republic of South Sudan respectively. This oil has been
sold before by many leaders within the Government of Southern Sudan in
bigger percentages exceeding 100% without Comprehensive Peace
Agreement within which Southern Sudanese are entitled a share of 50%.

The action by the minister was within the interest of the Southern and
Northern peace, harmony and economic stability in order to achieve
Independence.

The Secretary General of SPLM has betrayed his Government, It would be
meaningless to have a vast land without people living in it and you
call it a Republic of South Sudan.

Oil or bloodshed, sold or given away freely could have been
fundamental questions Amum should have asked himself before
implicating his colleague by releasing his Televised Statement from a
five-star Hotel in Addis Ababa.

Does he and the team know what Southern Sudanese are going through in
Juba to have waited for his snail motion deal with already rich North?

South Sudan is a land-locked country with less or no oil refineries
for our good crude oil, this compels strategists and planners like the
Federal Minister for Petroleum to make flexible move to avoid
situations that could be Million Dollar risks by selling the oil to
the North so that they permit the Government of South Sudan use their
pipeline until the five-star Hotel deal materializes therefore.

SPLM must learn how to contain issues that flush disgust to its own
image internationally, and even though there is an ulcer within, it
should be treated with care because we as citizens of this young
nation need to be represented in a democratized system by leaders who
are professionally, morally, logically and ethically upright.

Remember, generations shall come and go, even oil Wells shall dry up
but this Nation will always remain.
