Is Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) acting illegal in South Sudan

JULY 16/2011, SSN; Dear South Sudanese, today I feel greatly concerned
to lodge in my protest to the government of newly independence nation
of South Sudan to scrutinize the exploitative action of Kenya
Commercial Bank (Western Union) and other institutions operating in
the newest country.

Pertinent to this issue, though KCB in particular has been operating
in South Sudan since the peace was initiated, however, the bank never
involved the factual or lawful measures that should be governing the
banks.

I felt surprised to find KCB rejecting the local currencies of Sudan
(Sudanese Pound) and demanding for the dollar in transaction. All
those who send money to their relatives or others abroad are denied
the right of using their local currencies when the bank is in fact
operating in that particular country.

This is so ridiculous and it shows great lack of effective governance
in South Sudan, otherwise such things would never happen in factual
sense.

KCB continues it unauthorized high charges compared to the rates it
charges in Kenya, Uganda, and the list goes, but only in South Sudan
where everything unlawful is expected to be happening, because people
take as an South Sudan unlawful country.

Therefore, today, are we expecting such biases from foreign
institutions without laws being initiated against these acts?

Now, are we going to maintain KCB with such illicit acts against
citizens of South Sudan?

It is truly absurd to find that $100 is being commissioned for $20 by
the same KCB money transfer, which leaves the sender with no options
but to cry about such hard conditions imposed by these foreign banks
or organizations.

There is always wrong thinking by these foreign banks; they term South
Sudanese rich and so they just come to the country to take advantages
of our weak civilians but not to serve them as usual, rather, enough
that they started their own way of exploiting the citizens.

The government of South Sudan should wake up from sleep this time and
address the dishonest activities being continued by foreign
institutions in the country; otherwise the country is coming to the
worst soon on the side of living standards of the citizens.

To come back to the point, the commission on money transfer in the
rest of the countries is only charged 10% or less. I would simply
challenge the government of South Sudan to tell us, if these
situations are favorable for us as it wanted the country to join East
African community (EAC) immediately after independence on 9th July.

If not, then we as citizens of the country are going to decide our
fate, since it will be our determination to be solving our grievances
because it is something odd to us to continue getting such uneasy
lives when we have experienced tortured lives for so long or many year
of war, hunger, lack of education as you can see South Sudan’s
educated population is less than 30% if I am not proven wrong this
time.

Finally, we should never expect the government of South Sudan to put
us in the gutter of pain and agony again this time, which shows
nothing less than poor management of our resources.

Some of government officials feel nervous or edgy to see such articles
but I would simply say that, it is our general incumbent concerns to
address the problems prevailing and to put them to government’s
attention. Please, nothing we are waiting for, the country is solely
under our control; let's work for improvements.

Thanks you very much all, and God bless you.
