JUBA, 20th July 2011 [Gurtong] - The Ministry of Public Service of the
Government of South Sudan, has warned civil servants in the government
institutions over unreasonable visits considered by the Ministry as a
hindrance in delivering effective services.

While addressing civil servants in South Sudan Hotel yesterday, Mr.
Daniel Aroyuen Secretary of Recruitment Board at the Ministry of
Public Service Juba said that, the Ministry has learnt that
unnecessary visits into government offices by friends and relatives
has become a common culture that affects effective service delivery.

“It blocks the servants from pursuing their daily routines as they
attend to them instead of doing office work,” Daniel told Gurtong
media in an interview.

He cautioned that, “friends and relatives who do not have official
business to conduct should not visit you during working hours,” he
told the servants.

Daniel directed that, “the receptionist should offer forms for
appointment to the visitors to clearly state their reasons of visits.
If it is not official then they should be barred from entering the
premises.”

He also cautioned and urged the civil servants that, “you should limit
these visits through using the receptionist, if it’s difficult to do
it alone.”

Daniel reminded the civil servants that the Republic of South Sudan
has a task to build and develop in order to fulfill the expectations
of the people who tirelessly struggled to vote for Independence.

While launching the new currency on Monday in Juba, President Salva
Kiir cautioned his leadership and the citizens that, ‘voting for
independence is a vote to work hard.’

Daniel Aroyuen is 100% correct. Those of us who come from the West who
have come to appreciate that "time is money" and should not be wasted
fill embarrassed when visiting government officials in South Sudan
whose offices are full of relatives or friends just chatting. This
habit must stop immediately or such officials lose their jobs for
wasting public time!
