South Sudan's United Nations Special Representative to the United Nations Secretary General (SRSG) Hilde F. Johnson, says the UN and its humanitarian agencies are scaling up assistance to facilitate better conditions for returnees from the North. Hilde told Radio Miraya in an interview on Tuesday, that there is need to facilitate returns from the North. Many returnees are still stranded due to lack of transport. She said a process is underway to establish return arrangements and settlement sites for the returnees. Hilde however said that mobilizing donor resources by UN agencies to transport the returnees is still very difficult. Commenting on the possible resettlement of thousands of internally displaced people from Abyei, the Head of mission said there is still a need to see a fully adequate and operational deployment plan, to ensure that it is safe for people to return and resettle. "It's very dangerous to have people return without the arrangements being ready for them..." Hilde said. She said that UNMISS is in the midst of discussions with the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei to find a rapid solution to aid the stranded IDP's. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "JFD info" group.
