Getting off topic here, but yes, Cisco is moving towards a modular system,
much like Alcatel, instead of one single IOS image having all the functions
you need. And yeah, it was nice in the days of a startup-config backup was
a FULL backup of your device, but now we have this vlan.dat to deal
with...but that is also on the way out. Thanks again.

Thank you for the information. Good to know. Still would like to see
this "in clear".

Call me paranoiac about restore not working, but I had few joys with
different IOS having different default settings causing some fun side
effect on hardware swap. I saw :
* different interface default
* different EIGRP behaviour
* RIP issue (stopped working all together after the replacement of a
7204 with another with a different IOS).
* etc.

I still think cisco miss a "dump me all the value for everything, even
default values" when you do a backup of the config.

Well it seems they re-wrote the whole IOS for the new router

""The CRS-1 is expected to be the first product to use the code, but the
company plans to eventually use the software across its entire switching
and routing product line.""
Does not know if it is true or just marketing fuss.
