You are right, there are not big changes, probably my inexperience 3 years ago told me to modify the syslog daemon rather than my code.

But one modification that is useful is that I'd disabled the "Message Repeated N Times" from msyslog, because we handle that ourself.

        You can use syslog-ng too. I think this is the option a lot of people are 
using.
