Javier,
With your help, I was able to track down the problem... I found some helpful
tips on the net-snmp mailing archive... My problem was solved by recompiling
snmp to include the host and disman/event-mib mibs and WITHOUT host/hr_swinst.
Apparently there is some wierd dependencies with the host/hr_swinst mib. I am
surprised that more people haven't experienced this issue... I setup a redhat
7.3 machine and a fedora core 3 machine and even tried the rpms (ucd-snmp 4.2.5
rpm for rh7.3 had these mibs already compiled in, as your documentation
states). I find it a little odd that these mibs are considered optional in the
newer releases of net-snmp.

Anyway, here are the NET-SNMP (5.0.9) compile options for anyone who may also
be having this problem:

./configure --with-mib-modules="host disman/event-mib" \
--with-out-mib-modules=host/hr_swinst --prefix=/usr/local \
--sysconfdir=/etc --with-logfile=/var/log/snmp \
--with-default-snmp-version="1"

Javier, thank you VERY much for your help!!!
