Hi Alex,

I am investigating whether JFFNMS is suitable for our organisation.

The installation went very easy (compared to openNMS which was a nightmare). So
that's a good start.

I would like to know whether there is any way one can add interfaces to a host without having to do discovery?

Whatever AD Policy I set, if I want to add an interface I will still have to do
"Manual Discovery" with or without a portscan.
Sniffing on network traffic, the portscan doesn't seem to do that much extra.
But you have to do a portscan to be able to add UDP, TCP or other interfaces.

I don't understand, you want to be able to do a Manual add of TCP ports without doing a port scan? is that it ?

Also I soon had to make some changes to engine/tcp_status.php since we kept receiving log mails about false connections to several ports. Those services (ssh, smtp) don't appreciate it that the poller simply open a connection (read a bit) and close the connection.

So the change i made is that per interface description you can define whether
the poller should 'bounce' the string received, or what string to send
otherwise. So far configuration is done in the php file itself, but if we are
going to use JFFNMS, then I will probably make the bounce/message configurable
per TCP(/UDP) interface.

That seems nice. I'll wait for the patch. Read the list archives on how to use export_custom. Also you could put the "quit" string in the interface types fields.
