Hi Patrick, You have a big installation, the biggest I worked on was 200 hosts and running on dual P3 1Ghz, one server for the DB and one server for apache/poller/rrd/etc.
They are running 30 threads and the load is less than 0.5 on both servers. You are seeing that load when you run 30 threads because of DB being overloaded. Try moving it to a different box.
