People,

I'm having a strange behavior on my system.

I'm working with a Compaq Proliant PL1600 - PIII 500 MHz, 256 MB RAM, 2x9GB
10k rpm SCSI disks.

It has 53 hosts and 592 interfaces at this moment, but I need to grow this
number. My problem is that the CPU use are about 90%-98% all the time.

I was testing the same number of interfaces on a Dell gx110(PIII 650Mhz, 256
MB RAM, 40GB 7200rpm IDE disk) and the CPU used was about 60%.

I put the /var partition in a disk separate from the disk that I mounted the
/ partition.

The system is very slow and sometime show alerts that is not real(by manual
checking).

I use a debian sarge with the all patches applied and kernel 2.6.8, in the
old machine I used the fedora core 3.

Without put the database on other machine, how can I better the performance?
I think that I'm missing something.

Thanks
