I have jffnms running nicely on my private LAN, but it is unable to check snmp on servers that live in a different DMZ due to firewall restrictions. Security will not allow me to tunning snmp through the firewall, nor will they allow me to ssh tunnel through on my own. I can connect to the DMZ on a few ports such as http, https and ftp.
Do satellites work in jffnms? If so, will they allow me to poll in the DMZ and display performance information on the LAN monitor? If so, can someone please give me a quick and dirty explanation on how to set it up? The manual has a section on Satellites but it is basically empty, and the list archives say it does not work even though the changelogs say it's been working since 0.7.7. If it works I would be happy to document it as I go. If satellites do not work, is there another method that might do what I need? Please let me know.
