When a monitored server goes offline (completely powered down or I pull the ethernet plug), the server stills shows as reachable so I figure the reachability interface isnt working. So, I grepped the list a bit and found references to permission problems. I followed the install guide. my permissions for fping look like:
-rwsr-sr-x 1 root jffnms 49173 Jul 18 14:53 /usr/sbin/fping Yes, I tried setting the group to adm as well, but that didnt work. The permissions in the install guide look a bit different: -rwsr-xr-x 1 root adm 28291 May 31 22:14 /usr/sbin/fping not the x rather than s in the group permissions. I changed user jffnms's shell to /bin/bash temporarily and then su'd to jffnms. As that user, fping -v responds (I havent tried actualyl pinging anything with it thouhg). Can anyone shed some light on my situation? many thanks. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
