I’ve been trying to get this to work for far too long, so I’m hoping someone can give me some guidance on how to get triggers to fire (to send an email) when I receive a trap.  I’ve read the docs and they explain how it should work and I’ve done my best to follow, but I still can’t seem to get any traps to fire triggers.

I’ve tried to invoke the included “Link Down” trap receiver with no luck.

I get this in the jffnms trap log:

22:10:52 ------

IP: 10.0.0.253

Uptime: DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance 0:0:02:03.50

Trap OID: IF-MIB::linkDown

New Trap ID: 51

I get this in the snmptrapd logfile:

10.0.0.253 [UDP: [10.0.0.253]:4527]: Trap , DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (12350) 0:02:03.50, SNMPv2-MIB::snmpTrapOID.0 = OID: IF-MIB::linkDown

And this in the Events page:

Unknown   laptop INT   down Trap OID IF-MIB::linkDown Values:

I do get the messages on the events page (seemingly) because they fall through to the “Default Trap Handler”, but I also cannot get this handler to call a trigger even though I’ve created two triggers (one for events and one for alarms, with no filtering) to send emails.  I get triggers to fire fine for events that result from interfaces, but I can’t seem to make this work for traps.

What am I missing?

Basically what I’m looking for is for a way for JFFNMS to send a page/email when it encounters a trap (any trap for now).  I know I could use the traptoemail script to do this, but I would like for JFFNMS to do it so I can keep everything centralized.

Thanks in advance…
