All set.. I was using MySQL 4.0.x and upgrading to 5.0.x fixed the issue.

I am following the install guide for Sarge and am running into the follow
error.

ERROR 1064 at line 23: You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the
manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to
use near 'DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8' at line 18
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
