Yes, it was in fact a DNS problem. Since our primary internet feed went
down, the DB server lost access to its configured name servers and for some
reason, it was trying to do a reverse lookup on the JFFNMS frontend box on
every connection, and this would time out after 30 seconds...once I
configured reachable name servers, JFFNMS started right back up.
