Hello one and all,

I use Gentoo, for (8.3-r2)JFFNMS. It has been a while since
I updated my small network monitoring system. I used
postgresql (8.0.15) on a gentoo system.

Well the Gentoo devs have fixed much that was wrong
with how Gentoo supported postgresql:

http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/PostgreSQL
"The greatest benefit reaped from this slotting method being
that bug and security fixes, which are delivered via minor
version updates, can be applied without fear of corrupting
data; 8.4.1 can be updated to 8.4.2 as they're guaranteed to
be compatible"

So now I ready to get the latest JFFNMS working with Gentoo,
again, and document how this all works.....(er with some
help...)

Here is the old JFFNMS/Gentoo docs:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/jffnms.xml

So, does JFFNMS work with postgresql 8.4.2?

All are welcome.... as I'm going to perform
a completely new installation on a separate machine
and interface a few systems, routers and embedded
boards (snmp) and maybe a ups or 2 to get
the bugs worked out before cutting over my
small, humble network to the new server......

I'm also giving heavy consideration to postgresql
9.0_2beta for many reasons listed here:

Caveats? Suggestions? Comments?

James
