sorry for the (awful long) delay, but the issue i encountered was not critical at all and got postponed again and again. i applied the one-liner to jfsutils/mkfs/mkfs.c you sent me and it solved the problem. creating an jfs on a device [1] which is already losetup'ed to a loop-device with unpatched mkfs.jfs still succeeds and mounting too, but writing to the mounted partition failed with an oops. i could not reproduce the oops with an untainted kernel, but strange error messages made it to the logs: jfs_mount: Mount Failure: File System Dirty. Mount JFS Failure: -22 jfs_mount failed w/return code = -22 ERROR: (device hde4): diAllocExt: error reading iag ERROR: (device hde4): remounting filesystem as read-only writing to the mounted parition gives "no space left on device". unmounting succeeds, mounting again fails with "wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on...". this all goes away with your patch ;-) thank you, Christian.
