Are you running a recent version of jfsutils?  Versions prior to 1.1.6
don't do much to verify the directory table.  There was a big-endian
related fix in 1.1.7.

This won't explain what is causing the problem, but it may explain why
fsck didn't complain.

This is consistent with the log messages below.  The directory table is
what helps readdir keep track of the current position within the
directory.

I haven't had any other reports like this, but I don't think there are a
lot of jfs users on sparc64.  I don't have much time to look at this
right now, but will try to give it more attention next week.
