1) Is there a reiable version of sync.. since sync does not gurantee that all the file system buffers are written when it returns.. Tthough fsync does provide the guarantee, its not possible to get a file descriptor for a very open file on the system.
2) Also I've observed that in case of logging file system if there are continuos I/O's to the filesystem then sync hangs.
