I have discussed this with SUSEs product manager Andrea Jaeger quite a
bit, and managed to convince him/them that at least they should support
booting from JFS root filesystem.  SUSE has no problem installing onto
pre-formatted JFS filesystems, which is what I do. 

SUSEs reasoning is that the JFS is used enough to warrant support during
installation.  I too think it's a pity, especially given that SUSE has
had JFS support for quite some time. 

Overall, it doesn't worry me an awful lot.  I don't really need the
support at installation-time.
