I recently purchased a Soekris net4801 [1] along with its hard drive kit and a Toshiba laptop drive. I've run into an unusual bug that I can consistently reproduce with this machine when using JFS, but not when using ext3 or xfs.
If I try untaring something, kicking off a kernel build, or do anything else that's IO intensive on a JFS filesystem, the process will get stuck in uninterruptible sleep within a minute or two. This only occurs with kernels 2.6.17.x or newer; Kernels 2.6.16.x and earlier don't seem to have this bug. Selecting CONFIG_JFS_DEBUG doesn't seem to shed any further light into this issue. I was unable to reproduce this behavior when I moved the Toshiba hard drive to an old Thinkpad I had laying around. What are the next steps I should take in debugging this?
