You can try to mount the volume read-only, and recover what you are able to. I don't have time to look at the fsck code right away, but I think fsck can be made to be a little bit more robust, instead of just giving up when it can't read that data. You should be able to copy the partition to any block device the same size or bigger. If you've lost the data there, I'm not sure if fsck will behave any better reading invalid data rather than getting an i/o error.
