I get a "cannot continue" message from jfs_fsck:

./jfs_fsck version 1.1.7, 22-Jul-2004
processing started: 9/4/2004 13.7.52
Using default parameter: -p
The current device is: /dev/hdc1
Block size in bytes: 4096
Filesystem size in blocks: 7424030
**Phase 0 - Replay Journal Log
**Phase 1 - Check Blocks, Files/Directories, and Directory Entries
Unrecoverable error reading M from /dev/hdc1. CANNOT CONTINUE.

Any way to recover this disk? I can mount it read only but there are problems here and there (notes about directory loops). This is a fairly new disk, and the second FS failure I have had in the last year with JFS. I suspect is it software not hardware, but can't be sure.

I thought _journaling_ filesystems could roll back transactions and recover from structural problems.

Thanks for any help,

Steve
