Juanita,

I am not quite certain what you're looking for that cannot already be done
using Windows Explorer under Windows 7.

You can sort files by type, which doesn't filter such as to eliminate any one
file type, but allows you to have, for instance, all .doc files grouped
followed by all PDF files grouped, etc., with the file extensions occurring in
alphabetical (or reverse alphabetical) order depending on what you do with the
Type split button.

One can select multiple files and then choose rename via the context menu
brought up by right mouse click.  Each of the files will have the same name but
include a parenthesis, digit, and close parenthesis attached to that name since
no two files in the same folder may have exactly the same name.  This presumes
that what you're renaming are files that all share the same type.  It gets a
bit more complicated with mixed types because you can, for instance, end up
with two files named, for example, rename(1), if those two files do not share
the same file type since the extensions that indicate file type are considered
part of the file name.
