Very well put, Brian, and thanks again.

I certainly understand now more than I did before.

Tom,

It is impossible to be any more specific. History has shown us
that hackers will continue hacking on unsupported (and supported, too) versions
of web browsers. What the precise nature of the exploits they identify and
take advantage of is impossible to predict (unless you're either a hacker or a
security geek who likes to play around with this stuff for the fun of it).

The one thing you can be sure of is that over time an unsupported
web browser becomes the perfect back door for a hacker to get into your system,
since once support is dropped absolutely no additional fixes or patches to
address identified security issues are made. You may or may not be hit, but
why on earth would you want to take that chance?

This has nothing to do with Microsoft specifically. You don't want
to be running Firefox or Chrome that's multiple generations old for precisely
the same reason. You don't want to be running any program that accesses
cyberspace in any way that's multiple generations old and no longer supported
by its maker. It's like leaving your apartment door unlocked when you go out
for work and live in a place like New York City, Chicago, or Washington, DC or
walking through New York Central Park or dark alleys at 3 AM alone (or even
with someone else). Why do something that's asking for trouble?

Brian
