Hi all: Last Wednesday, I prepared what I thought was an iron-clad w9 form with signature inserted via Kurzweil. I even used it and sent it to one agency. Another agency I've worked for wanted one, so I sent this iron-clad one. Their reply was that they couldn't read my ssn. It had my EIN in there, but I decided to be nice, and, thinking that, maybe, I'd attached the wrong one, I'd try and fill it out with the SSn and send it.
I went to http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf Somehow, I must have set things not to open in the browser, for Exchange Viewer opened. I could tell by the "option 1 of 4" or some such thing at the bottom of the page. I couldn't read the text, so tried doing OCR and saving the file with text layers, then open with Adobe DC. I could navigate to the first field, click to open forms mode, type in my Name. Tabbing to the next field proved strange. JAWS acted funny. I tried this procedure several times, and, sometimes, I could hear the field names, often, I couldn't. Question: If you're not sure if a web-based pdf is image or text-based, is it a problem if you OCR it with Exchange Viewer? I mean, if, unbeknownst to me, it is text-based, does it get messed up if I do an OCR in Exchange viewer and save file with text layers? I wish I could figure out an idiot-proof way of taking it from receiving the w9, filling it out, inserting a signature, and send it off to the agency. And, there's the date, too, which didn't materialize among the fields I could go to. I had Rob look at it, too, and he said he could go near the field where the signature should go, but not place the cursor within it. I have scanned signatures under my Kurzweil, Images, Signatures. They are .tif files. I tried opening one of these and selecting the text, copy that to the clipboard, but that didn't work. Then, I thought I'd open an older one that appeared to be one that had been printed, filled out by hand, and scanned, but not signed. I have Kurzweil 2013, and the file opened, but it was blank. I opened same file with adobe or Viewer, text was there. What on earth am I doing wrong? Specs: Windows 7. 64-bit. JFW 16 and 17. Adobe DC. IE 11. Kurzweil 2013. Should I download Adobe Acrobat Reader XI again? Not believing I'd need to do that ever, I didn't save that useful link someone posted. Should I uninstall DC, then install XI?
