Bob and others - Open the JAWS online help and go to the application-specific section; find the article on either Internet Explorer or Firefox and you should get info on Application Mode. It's bound up with something called ARIA and you can search in the Index of the online help for that, too. Apparently, the basic idea is to make web site navigation act more like what a sighted person sees. As I told my friend at FS, most blind people wouldn't have the first idea about what a sighted person sees, but that didn't get me much sympathy. Anyhow, I told him in no uncertain terms that they need to get an index entry for Application Mode into the online help.
