I'm starting a separate thread because my original has become somewhat
"experimental" for lack of a better term.

I have had quite a bit of back and forth with the groups.io folks regarding
thread muting and they claim it is working now, and it seems to be for me.  At
this juncture the claim is that if you mute a thread, regardless of whether
that's via a link in the plain digest, full-featured digest, individual e-mail
for a list message, or via the web interface you should not receive any
additional entries for that thread in email.   At one point they were still
delivering whatever might have been posted between the time you muted a thread
and the first digest generated after you muted it.  I objected to that because,
well, "mute is mute" and in order to implement the function at all they have to
be generating the digest based upon an individual user's settings.  Why would
someone ever want "a couple more entries" in a thread that they intentionally
chose to mute?  Even if you had been following a thread, muting it should
override the follow.

In any case, if anyone is using thread muting and it is not working as
advertised above please contact [email protected] to report the behavior you're
encountering.  It still seems as though there's a "mixed bag" with regard to
what people are actually experiencing after muting a given thread or threads,
and that shouldn't be the case.
