I use the MS remote desktop client with jaws on my local network and
it works well, I also use remote desktop to connect to virtual
machines running on the local system and that works very well.

Note in order to do this the remote end must be running either a
windows server variant or be an upgraded version of the workstation
line (at least Pro, but Enterprise and Ultimate also allow remote
desktop connections, the various Home versions  do not).
