Hi,

I use a program called PM Checkbook available from FS which is used to
record and track household expenses. It can be expanded to categorize types
of expenses. It is free and easy to use.

Hello Nicole, and all.
Speaking for those who haven't used an accounting software, or is using
accounting software for the first time what program would suggest? I
training many students on Jaws and windoweyes, and most of my clients are
managing their home finances. Some use Excel, however, some just go on line
at their bank.
The question is, knowing client's needs and what they can afford what would
you or anyone suggest on this list that is Affordable and useful to get
your taxes done and if you're running a small business? Are there only two
choices on what software to use?
I made a comment on the prices after going to the web site for quickbooks,
but I wasn't nocking the price. Depending on how much the actual Quickbooks
software cost, then there are the scrips that goes with the software that
Jaws or WindowEyes work with the software. Adaptive software is always going
to be on the high end of the price scale. It has been for years. However,
everyone on this list and others must know their limitations on what they
can afford.
This is just food for thought.
James

The two programs are built for different target markets, which is where the
difference comes in.
Quickbooks is targeted for folks that have little actual accounting
training. It's a bookkeeping program. Peachtree is geared more towards folks
with more accounting knowledge, so it does some higher level stuff
accountants use for the more advanced tasks of an accounting job. This is
why CPA's tend to like Peachtree over Quickbooks. But both will get
bookkeeping done in their own individual way, so they're both worth
scripting.
As blind folks we face an uphill battle with getting accessibility, and the
feeling I see is one of "thank the gods there's an option for us now."
That's not accessibility, it's accommodation, and there's no reason in a
fair world why all blind folks should be forced to use only one product
while the rest of the world can use any one of several. Multiple products
survive because people are different and have different ways of doing things
and different ways of thinking. There is great value in allowing blind folks
to have the same option instead of forcing them into using the same thing.
When we have the same choice that a sighted person has in software products
then we achieve parity with the sighted world and are no longer
marginalized.
