I agree with the Firefox/Webvisum solution, but two points;

1. I have an impression that people have recently been subscribing to Webvisum
without invitation, so that requirement may have been dropped.

2. I understand that ActiveX controls involve security issues. As a non-techy,
I'm wary of tinkering with them.

Lauren:

Not sure what your technical problem might be with not hearing audio
CAPTCHAs, but it sounds as if your security settings might have
changed to disallow the running of some ActiveX controls. In Internet
Explorer you can customize these settings through Internet Options in
the Tools menu.

If you are open to using Firefox as your Web browser of choice, you
might want to consider the Webvisum CAPTCHA-solving service as an
alternative, because it will insert the solution to a CAPTCHA right
into your Windows clipboard, and from there you can paste it into the
provided edit field just using the standard ctrl+v hotkey.

I have found Webvisum much better than trying to interpret those
murky, rather confusing audio CAPTCHAs.

This Webvisum plug-in may be downloaded and installed for free as an
add-on to Firefox. I have used it frequently, and it seems to work
quite well, although I don't hear a lot of folks talking about
Webvisum any more. You do need someone to send you an invitation; but
you can request one. If you have trouble with this, you always may
write me off-list and I'll help to get you this invitation.
