Hi Jason. Very interesting question. I use notepad for general use, and textpad for more complicated needs. Notepad comes with your windows system, and you'll have to google textpad for their site. Textpad is sort of free, if you can live with a guilty conscience. They don't nag much.
I don't have any scripts for either editor. And, I've never felt the need for any. They both have pretty good help systems.
