I have done this successfully. Initially, I had some sighted assistance
resizing the picture properly, I saved it as a .gif, and have been inserting
it successfully into documents for sometime now. An added benefit is that I
had a stamp made of the signature as well and I can use it as my legal
signature. Very handy when I was having to sign a lot of documents.
CAUTION!! Don't Lose It if you do this!

Subject: RE: Electronic signature

I found the following Q&A that gives what is probably the best solution. I
would use sighted assistance the first time to make sure the signature came
out well, but once the graphic file is created, I assume JAWS users can fill
in their electronic signature independently from then on. I'll confirm
later. I neglected to note the webpage's address, but here's the text:

How do I create an electronic signature that I can import into a Word
Document in a signature line?

Write the signature on a piece of paper, and then scan the paper. Tell the
scanner software to save the resulting picture as a graphic file in any of
the common formats, such as JPG, GIF, or PNG. In Word, use the Insert >
Picture > From File command to import the graphic file.

You may want to store the graphic as an AutoText in your Word template, so
it can be inserted in any document.

I wish I did, but I have found it really difficult. It seems when I try I
have to size the signature and then make sure it is actually placed in the
right place - all visual as far as I can tell. So, I would also appreciate
any information on this.

Correction. I'm looking for how to add an electronic signature, not a
digital signature, with JAWS. I just discovered the two concepts are
different.

Anyone have experience with this function?

Subject: Digital signature

I have no experience with digital signatures, but today I was asked to
attach one to a document. I've looked up the subject online to find that
applying the concept seems daunting. Any suggestions on digital signatures
with JAWS?

For anyone interested, this blog page gives what seems like a good
explanation of digital signatures and how to execute them in Office 2010:
