Unless HP support has gotten better over the years, that may or may not be a
great idea. 'those folks make great hardware, but their support is pathetic!
One dude, who obviously couldn't get 6 inches away from a script, once advised
me to trouble shoot a problem by disabling my entire startup group. I shudder
to think how many newbies might follow such advice, and wind up with a totally
disabled machine, and no one else around to help.

First, when manipulating msconfig, be careful the changes you make there can be
longer lasting then what you wish.
If you want to speed up the load process and performance you want only entries
under the startup tab. Not all entries should be unchecked. Things like MS
Office, your favorite media player, Adobe and such, are all okay to uncheck.
Second, if I was looking at the right specs for your computer you should have 4
Gigs of memory, right? This should be enough memory to run Windows, JFW and
other programs comfortably. Was the recommended settings for appearance or
performance? Always use performance settings.
If you were to call HP, as you should have support, just let them know that the
performance seems slow. Are you running Symantec or MacAfee products?
These are notorious as being resource hogs.
Hope this can help.

Hi,

Have you tried calling HP Support to see if they can answer your questions?

Hi.
Yes, it has always been like that.
I have looked on msconfig, but I don't know what to look for.
Any suggestions?

strange. First 2 minutes to get the logon sound, and then 2 more to start jaws.
