This is not my experience. I'm guessing you encountered this with just one 
customer rep. when something like this happens, ask politely to speak to the 
supervisor. Or call back and get a more receptive person. Although Amazon's 
website has several inherent frustrations, its people are generally pretty 
helpful, and better than the norm.

Unfortunately, you cannot place orders by phone with Amazon.  As I have 
discovered, you have to place the order online and then call Amazon customer 
service at 866-216-1072 once you have received your email order confirmation 
and have them adjust your order to reflect the correct size.  I have 
complained to Amazon about the poor accessibility of their web site for 
blind customers, but they don't seem to give a rat's ass.
