It may be true that JAWS 13 doesn't work with Word 2013 because Microsoft did
make some major changes, among them adding the "backstage" view and PDF
support. Even if it isn't, however, you are guaranteed to get better
performance if you upgrade to JAWS 16, as recent updates to the latest JAWS
release specifically addressed Office 2013 compatibility.

Subject: Upgrading to office 13 and jaws 16?

Hello, Presently, I am using windows 7 with office 10 starter and jaws 13. I
called Freedom Scientific last week to see what I needed to do to use jaws with
ms word 13 effectly. I was told that I need to upgraded from jaws 13 to 16
otherwise ms word 13 won’t work. Is that true? Also, I was trying to contact
Kathy Ann Murtha to get the audible text book on ms word 13 but, I don’t know
how to purchase this other than thru calling her. I have never been able to
speak with her to purchase a text book. Does anyone know if she is still doing
this teaching program? Are there other tutorials available to learn ms word
with Jaws? Any information that you have to share is appreciated. Thank you,
