Could there perhaps be two different versions of Google Translate (e.g.  a
mainstream site and an alternate version for screen reader users)?

Maybe.  I will poke around and see.  I also cannot get Google Maps to give
directions like it use to.  LOL  Ah well something else to play around with
and figure out.
