Subject: Need Compatible CD Burning Software
I am looking for CD burning software that JAWS will work with. I am
using a Windows 64 bit machine with Windows 8.1. What software works well
with JAWS?

Unfortunately, it is often difficult to resolve these types of problems
because they don't come up on all machines and thus may be difficult to
reproduce. Another thing to always keep in mind is that something else
could be causing these problems, such as application-specific settings,
antivirus/antispyware software, other programs, plugins, add-ons, toolbars,
and extensions that somehow interfere with JAWS and/or Thunderbird, or even
malware.

If you phone Freedom Scientific, they will provide to you your authorization
number. That is what I did. When I got a lap top. Then I stored it on a
thumb drive. For use if I should I need it.

Thank you for asking. My husband has 8.1, which, as I understand, is very
good. But I remember when Windows 8 came out, people were in a bit of an
uproar about it. As for me, I am crippling along with XP until JAWS 17 comes
out. When that happens, I want to gather all the information I can about
what works best with it, for instance a scanner for my printer, and I intend
to get Windows 10. So if anyone has advice about a scanner, I really need to
know, since I am completely ignorant about scanners. I thought about getting
8.1, but a couple of people advised me that since this is so close, there
was no point in learning two different systems - just wait and learn one. So
right now, that is my plan.
I know that I'll need everything for 64 bits then, and I don't know if some
of the records I have will transfer, but, as Rick says, "Tomorrow is another
day, another way..."
GIFT (God is forever true),
Carolyn

I haven't had any problems with the new update. However, I have had
problems in the earlier updates when Jaws16 was first released. Jaws no
longer freezes up on me.

Um, I don't find much comfort in this new update. I'm back to 15, as my
Thunderbird has crashed several times, which doesn't happen with 15. I
have found 16 to be most unstable.

You can retrieve the Authorization code, if you go through the authorization
process. That is, if you have already authorized JAWS. Normally, the code
will display. If it were me, I would copy and paste it from there, and save
it somewhere.

I got it from my dealer, who looked it up for me. It's written down again.
Had accidentally deleted it from my notes.

I just checked, the JAWS authorization key number is not displayed. There
is the serial number and then there is a locking code, which is the code you
are given once you enter the authorization number as you install JAWS.

I also like Windows 8.1 and have found it to be very good. The gripe is that
people don't like the metro things if they don't want them, and want the
ability to have only what they want. Something like that. But
performance-wise, I like it. I won't be jumping too quickly to Windows 10,
and will wait until Jaws support is good and FS and MS get their bugs worked
out well on that new venture.

Probably I should be more specific, as I suppose that just by mentioning
Oracle is too ambiguous. With your input, I can then better approach the

Thanks very much in advance for your help.

Greetings All!
First, I apologize if what I'm about to say has already been said. I am
way behind on my E-Mails. For me, several problems were fixed between the
April update, and the May update. I am now able to load JAWS at Windows
start-up again! I have braille display support back! User Account Control
Support works better as well! I don't know why this would be...
Have a great weekend!

Unfortunately, the release notes for this update are very generic; all FS
says is that it corrects an issue that had been made known to the company
through automatic error reporting. While this suggests that the update is
minor, the timing of its release is quite thought-provoking, as it hasn't
been too long since the previous update came out. Besides, why would FS
release an update that addresses only one issue? To my knowledge, this has
never happened before.

Hello list members:
A recent post regarding the AVG Anti-virus software brought to mind a
comment from one of the Freedom Scientific JAWS Tech support team that there
have been some issues with Kaspersky and JAWS.
Until this past Monday when I purchased JFW 16, I have been using Kaspersky
with JAWS 12, with no compatibility issues.
Any perspective would be appreciated.

Hello.
The question you should be asking is how well does office 2013. Worked with
jaws 13 and also keep in mind that office 16 will probably be the office 365
version before the end of the year. I also do not know if you will be
forced to upgrade to office 2016, at some point after it comes out. Since
you subscribe to office 365.
I hope this helps.

Well. I goofed and forgot to provide the link to the page that causes
problems with Jaws. Also, I only had the problem in FireFox. . No
problem with Jaws and this page with internet Explorer.
I just installed 2 optional Windows 7 updates. One concerns information
from one window showing up in another Window. Does that sound like it
might effect Jaws?
The other was my video driver. Both updates could effect Jaws so I
tried this page again and got the same results.
Step 1: Go to the following page with FireFox.
http://rsload.net/soft/document/15226-jarte.html
2: Do a Jaws search for the word bug.
3: Repeat the search after the first occurrence of the word is found.
4: Jaws stops responding after 2 or 3 searches for the next instance
with jawskey+f3.
Jaws speech history follows:
JAWS Find dialog
Find what: edit combo
bug
Alt+w
Bug Fixes: clickable
A bug in the WordPad word processing engine for Windows 7 and below
could cause bad behavior in documents where a hyperlink appeared at the
very beginning
clickable
Bug Fixes: clickable
Jaws gets stuck at this point or at the next instance .
5: Sometimes Jaws does not automatically recover.
6: Sometimes Jaws won't restart with jawskey+windows+f4.
7: One time, Jaws was removed from the tab order of running
applications. I could tell by loading another screen reader.
8: Jaws would not start again in one session after unloading NVDA, (the
other screen reader).
JAWS Version 16.0.2342, Windows 7 pro 64, FireFox 37.0.2
update 38.0.1 just now.
BTW: Jaws still does not read the read only edit boxes in the Firefox
about dialog, even after I made the mods to the settings file suggested
by other listers. Lots of other Mozilla dialogs are not read properly
with Jaws. All these updates and no change.

Unless it's different than with JAWS 13 and the other versions I've had, for
a permanent change to your screen echo, go to Insert V for JAWS Verbosity.
You'll have to arrow through a lot of other options, but when you find it,
there will be four choices - character; word; character and word; and no
echo. While in a document, hit Insert 2 on the number keys above qwerty. It
will give you the same choices.
GIFT (God is forever true),
Carolyn

Given that everything oracle related is java based I would suspect
that it is fairly spotty, but it has been far longer than since I have
gone blind that I have done anything with Oracle products so can't
really say from personal experience. Even when I could see I was not
nearly as impressed with the Oracle management tools as the equivalent
from MS.
I do know that oracle has a command line tool similar to MS' sqlcmd
and I would expect that to work fine with jaws.

Sad to say, that in my past work experience with Oracle 11 it was a very
difficult interface. the only way I was able to use it was if there was an
html-based front-end overlay to the database structure. In other words, the
actual Oracle interface was very unfriendly, in spite of all the Java
plug-ins and access bridge. I usually tried to avoid using it whenever
possible.

Dave, I wanted to ask that when you had the HTML overlay to work with, did
you find Oracle to be friendly with JAWS in that cenario? I ask this
because I may have a situation where some of my clients have to use an
application like this. Oracle data base, but with an HTML front end
overlay. I'm thinking that this should work with JAWS, provided the
developers code it correctly. I'm concerned that we may have to do some
scripting to make some of the elements work though. Thoughts?

Hi all,
Earlier today I checks to see if I had missed any updates on my PC, I
found one Microsoft security update and one Graphic update, so I
downloaded and installed them,. Upon rebooting the PC I found Jaws in 40
minute mode. I have a copy of the authorisation code and I was just about
to enter the code when i realised the code was already there with the last
3 digits as stars. I entered them anyway, and all was well, however The
Jaws icon now shows as"Jaws Home use".
Oh well That solved the mystery, at least I didn't have to use up my
last
authorisation key!

others step where he told me to press spacebar to check the box last week
ago when I got computer back after having window7 install !! So I had to
download jaws update on wednesday morning while I had fs technical support
man on the phone after the download finish the man told me to press enter on
restart the computer then jaws never came back on so he can continue help me
finish to show me how to get type character echo in internet,e-mail and etc
!! So we waited for 10 minute to see if jaws will come on so I call my mom
to ask her if she see anything on the window screen she told me it's say
start window so therefore that's mean the programs starter I think ,but it
will not open jaws and others program so I will have to call the computer
man to straight the problem out ,computer man came monday to fix start

Unless it's different than with JAWS 13 and the other versions I've had,
for
a permanent change to your screen echo, go to Insert V for JAWS Verbosity.
You'll have to arrow through a lot of other options, but when you find it,
there will be four choices - character; word; character and word; and no
echo. While in a document, hit Insert 2 on the number keys above qwerty.
It
will give you the same choices.

The other day, I got that 40-minute mode, so just shut down, started again -

I have experienced that several times. I go to the Jaws I want, shut down

Kevin:
I am currently using Office 365 on my work laptop at the University where I
teach. The computer is a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
I have found Outlook e-mail to work quite well, and to be completely
accessible with Jaws, at least with regard to the e-mail functions I use
daily.
I have not done much at all with the calendaring and other features, so
can't comment on their accessibility.

I hope this helps.

Hello,
I am using Jaws 15 and Windows 8.1. I have looked at the Windows live mail
help and cannot find out anywhere what the short cut key is to forward a
particular email in Windows Llive Mail in Windows8.1. I have tried the short
cut keys control and the letter F with no success. If anyone maybe knows the
short cut key combo I can use to forward an email in Windows Live Mail in
Windows 8.1, your wonderful very helpful info would be so very much
appreciated. Much, much thanks in advance for any help I can maybe get with
this.
Kindest regards,
Hank

Hi Kevin,
I have office 365 and I'm running JAWS16. So far I've only been using
word. It's working quite well, although it seems to be slow to start up. I
use the storage that comes with the subscription too.

Hi all,
Earlier today I checks to see if I had missed any updates on my PC, I
found one Microsoft security update and one Graphic update, so I
downloaded and installed them,.

Hello.
The downloadable office suite of word, excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook works
very well with JAWS for Windows version 14, 15 and 16. The storage works
very well as well. I have not tested the online version of the programs. I
have also not tested with JAWS for Windows version 13.

If you haven't already, you should submit this issue to FS, especially

Hi
I really need some help. Jaws sometimes becomes very muffled to the

Winamp, It plays properly. Does anyone have a clue what the problem might

If you are using a USB device for listening, unplug it; press
escape; and plug in again.
Works on laptops with a USP headset or usb audio card.

Hello, everyone.
This quiry relates to the recent thread on reading web addresses, but I
think my issue is different than what has been encountered thus far.
Basically, my problem is this:
When I am on a particular web site, I can initially access the URL web
address using either alt D or f6, but as soon as I start working with my
arrow keys to make sure I have focus on the address, or to actually copy the
address onto my clipboard, the address literally disappears.
At first, I thought this was a Jaws issue, in that the address is still on
the screen and simply is not being recognized by Jaws. However, I had my
sighted wife check, and she said that the address disappears from the screen
as well whenever I start working with my arrow keys.
I can gget a listing of other web addresses on the screen, but the one I
originally wanted seems to be gone.
Has anyone encountered this issue, and if so, how did you work around it?
I have found the problem with both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
I'm using Jaws 16 with Windows 7, IE 9, and Firefox 38 on this particular
computer.

If I want to get the web address to put into another email I use cntrl
d and the address that is right there is the current address. I cntrl
c to copy it. I guess you could paste it anywhere you like at that
point. If I don't want to leave the current address I hit enter and I
am right back on the page.
