Instead of notification area, my Win7 has a toolbars tab. However, that
notification area sounds familiar.

Hi Jim,
in windows 7, 8, and 8.1, if one of the items on the taskbar is the focus, then
if you press alt+enter, a properties dialog opens, and on the taskbar page,
there's a notification area customize button.
You can use any of the items on the taskbar: the start button, the taskbar
buttons, or the icons in the notification area(system tray).
In Windows 7, you can move the focus to the start button by pressing windows
key, then escape. But this doesn't work in windows 8 or 8.1.
However, in windows 7, 8, and 8.1 you can press windows key + T to move to the
first taskbar button, and then press alt+enter to open the properties dialog.

David.

Does this also work with Windows 8 or 8.a?

That's a great, to-the-point primmer. Thanks. Does it work the same way in
Windows 8.1?

Hi, Jim. Assuming you are using Windows7, since you didn't specify:

To always show all icons in the system tray

1. Open the Start menu with the Windows key

2. Press escape followed by Alt Enter.

3. Tab to the Notification / Customize button and press Enter.

4. Check the checkbox for always turn on all icons and press Enter.

5. Tab to Okay and press Enter.
