Virtual cursor on and off command is JAWS key-z, not Control-z. Control-z is
the undo command.

Update. I lost YouTube sound again, and once again tried Tom and Mario's
method. This time I was able to reach the mute/unmute, play and volume
controls. So to repeat their instructions, open a YouTube page, turn off the
virtual cursor by pressing control-z, then tab, or in this case, shift-tab.
I think I had to shift-tab just twice. This is in IE11 on a Win7, 64-bit
machine.

Thanks to both of you.

That's what I did, Mario. For some reason, no cigar on my system.

Adrian, turn off your virtual cursor with a inserrt+z.
then tab a couple of times so that the flash interface has focus and use
up/Down Arrow to raise/lower the volume.

have YouTube running on Firefox, but that wouldn't solve my IE issue.

I could get sound on other websites with IE11, and I could also get sound on
YouTube with Firefox. In my query, I noted that JAWS showed a volume panel
for YouTube that it didn't detect when IE11 was the browser.

required asking someone with sight.
