Well, on my system, Judith, jump, Jack and Jill (not to mention my name, "Jim") all start with the sound of the "regular j". In other words, the "j"s in each name make the same sound for me. In prior/below messages on this subject, you may have noted that "zj", as in "zjeanne" and "zjanne", was used effectively, by a couple of people, for the "soft j" sound; but, that does not work on my system. For me, it sounds like 2 sylables.
Clearly, this is something for which anyone, with this specific/similar issue, will have to find a solution that works for her/him. This seems to be related to everyone having, at least slightly, different computing/sound devices, software, synthacizers and other such things, as part of their configurations. In other words, we're on our own, on this type of thing at least. It says my name, Judith, without my having to play with the dictionary. Words like jump, jack and jill all come out fine. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Jim Hamilton via Jfw Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2015 9:39 PM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' Cc: Jim Hamilton Subject: RE: language question I am glad to hear that this works in your JAWS Dictionairy. However, when I read, with JAWS, "Zjanne", I hear the "Z"; it's almost another sylable. At least, this is how it sounds on my Windows 8.1, I-7, 64-git system, using J16. Of course, I would really be pleased if someone could tell us how to "mimic" the "soft J" sound. This is the first one that works for my synthesizer. I'd only suggest that you remove the first 'e" to get the right French vowel: Zjanne I'm adding it to my JAWS dictionary. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Nicole Massey via Jfw Sent: Saturday, September 05, 2015 5:22 PM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.'
