Hi.
If you can't use the arrow keys to select text, it's possible to lock the
left mouse button using insert+numpad slash, move the arrow keys, and then
unlock it using the same keystroke. It seems to be kind of
unpredictable--sometimes selecting strings of characters and sometimes
selecting one character at a time. I use the say selection
(shift+insert+down arrow) just to be sure. Use the say selection after you
unlock the left mouse button; I've found it doesn't work the other way
around.
