Hello to all,
        As there has been a great many of messages lately concerning ms-speech
and it's working with 3.2 being a fluke or not here's my independent
test.
        First of all, my thanks to Josh for starting all of us out on this
track, I personally have loved every minute of it.
        Before you begin you will need both the microsoft text to speech engine
and spchapi.exe. Note, ms-speech, filename that I used, ms-ttsl.exe is
7.6 mb, spchapi.exe, is less than one. A list member posted the web sight
for spchapi.exe earlier this evening, my thanks to David Ouimit for the
web sight. The following url is taken from his message and was used to
download spchapi.exe:

http://www.e-try.com/speech.htm

Next, I downloaded the microsoft text to speech engine, filename
ms-ttsl.exe. I got this from www.microtalk.com, under their public beta
link, then beta files, note, spchapi.exe can also be found here. Now,
there may be other sights for getting this stuff, thees are what I used.
        Next, I downloaded 3.3. Before I continue I should let everyone know my
system specs so as they can note for themselves that this test was
independent. I'm running two systems networked, a compaq and an hp
vectra. The vectra does not have any jfw on it at all, and served as the
install platform for the 3.3 download. The compaq has 3.2.31 on it.
        Ok, so I got the files, they're on the vectra. I'll spare the network
stuff, as it's not relevant. The first thing I did was to copy
msspeech.jls from jfw 3.3 to jfw 3.2 folders, this is essential, this
step must be done. Next, I copied spchapi.exe from one machine, the
vectra, to the other, the compaq. I ran it, it installed. Next, I copied
and ran ms-ttsl.exe, again with no errors. I then copied the following
lines from the 3.3 jfw.ini on the vectra to the jfw.ini file for 3.2.
Note, substitute your own synth numbers as needed.

Synth4Name=MSSpeech
Synth4LongName=Microsoft Text-to-Speech Engine
Synth4Port=
Synth4Driver=MSSpeech

After doing all this I saved the jfw.ini file and rebooted the system. I
loaded jfw, went to change synths, there was ms-speech, I selected it,
and that's how I'm writing this message.
        If anyone has any questions or clarifications they'd like to see on this
please let me know.
        I hope this helps.
Dave.
