Hi Jim,

We have a 98 system with an SB Live Value sound card. When I first
installed it it was stuttereing a lot with JFW32 and 33 using Eloquence. I
installed the latest drivers at that time which were the ones from the
Creative site and I believe they are dated 11/98. The stuttering stopped
immediately and hasn't come back ever. I have a friend using JFW32 and just
purchased the SB Live Value and is running 95 using JFW32 with DEC Access32
and his was stuttering quite a lot. He also installed the drivers from the
Creative site and the problem stopped. In fact he recently bought a DEC/PC2
hardware synth and now wonders why he bought it. On this 98 system that we
have we can use Eloquence, a telephony program, listen to CD's, and still
hear the sounds for incoming mail etc. with no troubles at all. Its great.
I'll try the new drivers and see what they have to offer. I'll let everyone
know.

Jim

Subject: RE: JFW and the new SB Live drivers

Hi Folks:

For some time now, I have been explaining that there is a problem with JFW
and the SBLive cards; even with the latest drivers download. It could be a
problem unique to Windows 98; I don't have access to Windows 95.

The problem is, that after using the computer and JFW for some time, the
speech begins to stutter when other computer processing takes place. I've
downe all I know to resolve the problem such as:
1. Disabling the MSDOS features,
2. disabling the sb16 blaster imulation,
3. turning the master effects off with the audio HQ program.

Of Course, the other problem is, that as far as I am aware, it is not
possible to independantly control the volume levels of the JFW program and
other programs that are talking to the card. So, for example, if you turn
down the volume using the Real Audio control, you also turn down the JFW
volume.

With reguards to the processing problems using Windows 98, I was told that
it's understood that one should reboot the computer after prolonged usage
because the opporating system becomes sluggish.

No, Olga, I am talking about the new drivers which were just released:
lw2_w9x.zip
This is a 26MB download which I finally was able to get due to the
servers being so busy.

Mike, the SB Live works fantastically with JFW -- both version 3.2 and
3.3 -- it really doesn't matter to JFW.

The upgrade which Olga mentioned made a significant improvement to the
performance of JFW with the SB Live card. However, I would like to
know how these new drivers perform with JFW. I know others on this
list have the SB Live card. Please let us know your experience if you
install these new drivers.
