Dear friends,
I am voluntarily associated with Arushi a Bhopal based NGO is working
towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. Our main focus being
the vision impaired children. We organized two ten day computer awareness
programs for the visually impaired in 1993& 1995. Soon after which we
started computer courses for the blind.
though We are working under constraints but with an endeavour to make
assistive technology accessible to an ordinary Indian. Hither to we
have been using `Talk' a dos based screen reading shareware as screen
reader. The screen reading softwares which work on Window-95 platform like
(Jaws for Windows) are unaffordable. Besides, they do not support fonts of
Hindi(Devnagri) and other regional languages.
Over the years, we have felt a dire need for a low cost sound blaster
based text to speech software which could convert computer based Hindi
and other regional language text/fonts into synthesized speech besides
English. It would bring revolution in the lives of millions of visually
impairred people in India.
In view of this, Arushi is keen on getting such a software developed and
and willing to coordinate the efforts. We shall be greatful if you could
all guide how to go about in this direction.

With regards,
Rohit Trivedi&Anil mudgal ,
