First of all I found I had to make sure the auto save function was not on
and that made all the difference in the world to my home machine. This
machine is a Pentium 200 with 32 megs of ram and before turning off the auto
save it was just like you are describing. I also make sure to not have too
many applications running at a time. I find I can run Word from office 97
and also have outlook open. That about reaches the max for me. I just
don't try to run more than that. Also make sure there are no unwanted
applications coming up in your start menu since they will be sitting there
in the background usurping power and speed.
